Miss Carden's arithmetic program, "The Language of Numbers," emphasizes comprehension and the communication of mathematical ideas rather than mere rote learning. Her sequential curriculum stresses logical thinking, order, and a clear mental image. The result is a solid foundation based on understanding; upon this careful beginning are added the more complex aspects of higher mathematics. Arithmetic is generally taught daily in groups up through grade 7. Each day's work includes drills, quizzes, and timed tests (grades 2-6) on the basic facts until mastery has been achieved.

Grade JP - 5: In conjunction with our Carden "Language of Numbers", we provide additional enrichment using the Saxon Math curriculum authored by Nancy Larson. As a result, the students participate in a wide variety of mathematics activities each day learning through hands-on experience, discussion and exploration reinforced with carefully considered practice.
