A truly good student must be well rounded - read well, spell well, think well, write well, speak well, and be able to admire the work of others. -Mae Carden

Extended Day Programs

Our commitment is to provide a wholesome, well-supervised Carden environment in which the children will participate in a variety of activities. Below you will find the specific details of our program.

Times and Schedule
Extended Day is available on all full school days. All students on the school campus after 3:00 p.m. (or the 2nd parking lot go round) must go to Extended Day. You may pick up your child at any time from 3:00-6:00 p.m. The following is an approximate schedule of our afternoon plans:

2:45-3:00 - Students in JP-4th grades participating in Extended Day will report directly to the Extended Day rooms (2ND grade classrooms) and students in 5th-8th grades will report to the homework room (5th grade classrooms) for attendance, to change out of their school uniforms and to have their snack.

3:00-4:30 - JP-4th graders will be escorted outside and grouped by grade level. On the half-hour the groups rotate to the playing field, Pioneer Park, or the black top where they have free choice games supervised by an Extended Day staff. 5th-8th graders who are not in the homework room will check in with the supervisor and join an area of activity of their choice. (Indoor activities will be scheduled for inclement weather).

4:30-6:00 - Remaining students will be combined into one group for games, art projects or play in the park.

Homework Room
This is the initial check-in room for students in 5th-8th grades who will be attending Extended Day. At 3:00 p.m. a no-talking rule will be enforced so that students can complete their homework in a quiet setting. It is not mandatory for students to stay in the homework room if they are finished with their homework or if they choose not to complete it. The homework room is closed at 4:00 p.m. and those students who would like to continue doing their homework may do so at the picnic tables outside. When students leave the homework room, they do need to check in with outside supervision. For the remainder of their stay they may socialize or have free choice of activities.

Payment Procedures
Extended Day service will be provided at the following rate: $2.00 per quarter hour for the first hour beginning at 3:15, and $3.00 per hour or partial hour thereafter. Therefore the charge until 4:00 p.m. is $6.00, until 5:00 p.m. $9.00, and until 6:00 p.m. is $12.00.

For those participating on an every day basis, and staying until after 5:00 p.m., an annual payment plan is available for $1,650 per year ($10 per day x 165 days). This can be paid on an annual, semi-annual, or 10-payment plan.

You will receive a monthly statement in the mail showing the amount due for the previous month. Those families whose payments are delinquent for two months will no longer be eligible for the program.

Snack
Please provide your child with a substantial, nutritious snack (which may include a non-soda beverage) to be eaten during Extended Day. No food, refrigeration, or microwave will be provided by the school.

After-School Programs
When a student remains on campus for after-school programs (Spanish, music, art, etc.) you will only be charged for the time he/she is supervised by our Extended Day staff. (For example; if your child has a music lesson at 3:30 p.m. and you pick him up immediately following the lesson, you will be charged for the 30 minutes that he/she was supervised by our staff prior to 3:30 p.m.) If you are not present to pick up your child after the music lesson, he/she must report back to Extended Day.

Behavior
Students whose behavior consistently falls below the acceptable standard will not be eligible to continue attending Extended Day.

Extended Day Dress Code
Play clothes should be modest. Shirts must have sleeves, no spaghetti straps or halter-tops. Midriffs should be fully covered. No short shorts. Sundresses are fine but must be modest in length. No inappropriate logos. No sandals - athletic shoes, only for safety purposes.

Pick-up and Check-out Procedures
We have established a mandatory check-out procedure to help us keep continuous track of the whereabouts of each child. The designated driver must come and personally sign for each child being released to his/her care. Please be careful to check the time. Children will be released only to drivers listed on the Carden Academy Release Authorization form.

Late Pick-up
Drivers who pick-up after 6:00 p.m. will be charged $1 per minute for each child. This charge will be included in your monthly bill.
